Vascular surgery: What increases the flow of students to the speciality?
CONCLUSIONS: A one-day conference can significantly impact students' perception especially when there is a lack of exposure within the undergraduate curriculum. This course helped to increase positive perception and dispute negative misconceptions about the speciality. The simulation workshops held at this conference increased students' confidence and awareness of relevant surgical skills. This conference provided a unique experience that positively impacted and inspired students and thus served as an important supplement to core medical curriculum. Thirty-three vascular residency programs among 13 countries joining forces to improve surgical education in times of COVID-19: A survey-based assessment.
CONCLUSION: Globalization and technology provide an opportunity for international education, with the goal of building well-rounded and academic vascular surgeons. This group is just the beginning of a large collaborative group among Hispanic American countries, hoping that more residency programs will join, with the aim of breaking borders in the education of vascular surgery. Recent trends in publications of US vascular surgery program directors.
ConclusionsThe decrease in the number of citations/program/year raises concern about the level of academic activity in vascular surgery. Overall, the annual distribution of the topic of these citations represents a continued shift from open to endovascular cases and decreasing basic science citations. Validated Assessment Tool Paves the Way for Standardized Evaluation of Trainees on Anastomotic Models
Conclusions: Performance on an open simulation model evaluated by a standardized global rating scale correlated to trainee experience level. This initial work confirms the ease and applicability of the grading tool among multiple expert observers and different platforms, and supports additional; research into applications translating this performance into the operating room.

A survey of 0 + 5 vascular surgery residency candidates: Perceptions of an applicant pool.
CONCLUSION: Applicants remained positive about their planned training and career paths. Attending vascular surgeons were identified as the strongest mentors, yet most students decided only in their third and fourth years to pursue 0 + 5 residencies. Educational debt remains a concern, and there may be consideration for a concerted effort to recruit potential candidates sooner. PMID: 26864776 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Recent trends in publications of US vascular surgery program directors.
Conclusion There seems to be a significant decline in the number of publications over the last 15 years. Yet, the subject of the publications has progressed from Open to TEVAR with an increase in endovascular publications. However, basic science publications reduced by half. Inclusion of Pulmonary Embolism Response in a Level I Vascular Emergency Program: A Good Fit in a Collaborative, Multidisciplinary System
The value of a systematic approach for assessment and management of life and limb threatening emergencies has been demonstrated by the success of organized trauma centers, stroke centers, and STEMI programs throughout the United States. Recognizing the applicability of a standardized care process to vascular emergencies, Dr. Michael Dalsing of Indiana University –Methodist Hospital led his academic faculty and hospital in the development of a statewide referral and rapid response system for vascular emergencies in 2009.
